National soil mapping, mineralogy and micropedology, assessment of land potential for agricultural development, interpretation of soil survey findings, and preparation of soil classification maps are the main objectives of this research department.
Recent achievements of this Department resulting from scientific and technical advances in soil identification include:  

[  Digitization of 18 million hectares of soil maps and land classification.

[  Establishment of soil database.

[  Provide digital maps of soil classes and characteristics at regional and national levels.

[  Planning to generalize soil properties to similar areas.

[  Identification and differentiation of soil manageable units to predict their behavior against different management.
